Discovery Place for Kids - Huntersville, NC. Norcom, the development company managing the Discovery Place Kids and Town Center project, announced this week a handful of the tenants who will inhabit the three-story, 45,000 square-foot retail building located at the intersection of Gilead Road and Old Statesville Road. A company official also said construction is on schedule.
Brian Cillian, a Norcom associate, said day-care provider Shining Stars Academy, restaurant Hershey's Ice Cream & Grill, and Tuti, a boutique selling jewelry and handbags, have reserved space in the building. Frank Manis, owner of Mama's Pizza, announced earlier this year he is leasing an 1,800-square-foot space for a restaurant inside the facility.
Norcom and the Town of Huntersville partnered in 2006 to build three structures on the 4.1 acre site: the
nearly 50,000 square-foot Discovery Place Kids museum, which will offer third-floor office space for the town's planning staff, the commercial building; and a three-story parking deck.
The project, town officials have said, will become the centerpiece of downtown development and an education hub for students.
More than half of the building has been leased to a number of companies, Cillian said. He declined to give a complete list of businesses because Norcom is still solidifying some contracts and some stores haven't given him permission to release their names.
"Things are going fairly well so far," he said. "The really good thing for us is that people have seen the site so long, but now that cranes are going up and work is being done, a lot of interest is being generated in the building."
