I moved into Stephens Grove neighborhood in Huntersville NC over 5 years ago with my wife Suzanne and 3 year old triplet boys ( which are turning 8 next week). After living in Ft Lauderdale, FL for 15 years I was looking to find a home in the country. However, my wife is more of a city girl. So my dilemma was to find that happy median.

After searching for a couple of weeks we stumbled across this neighborhood tucked away off this country road. (Stephens Road in Huntersville, NC) We wanted to be close to Lake Norman, NC, as well as, Uptown Charlotte (to keep the wife happy).

It is a Shea Home community, which makes it even more attractive. Shea homes have always been a respected builder throughout the Carolina's and we loved their floor plans.

 The amenties include a pool, tennis courts, basketball court, playground and clubhouse. The common areas are very well kept and seasonal flowers are planted regularly to make the entrance always look beautiful.

 The Lake Norman area of Charlotte NC and the town of Huntersville NC offers a great balance of sprawling farm area as well as quaint shopping villages nearby.

I have been selling real estate now for over 5 years and believe that the Stephens Grove neighborhood is an excellent place to live. From the local schools to the youth sports it provides you and your family with an outstanding quality of life.

Residents living in Mecklenburg County, NC have gone years without new assessments and property taxes. This certainly is not a good time to be raising anyone's taxes but they are coming.

I still believe that North Carolina is still a very affordable place to live. I have clients who live in New Jersey and pay close to $8000/year for a 1200 sq ft home. On my home in Huntersville NC which is in Mecklenburg County I pay just over $3000/year. I am very comfortable to be paying that amount for the tremendous schools, parks and other amenities in the north Charlotte area.

Mecklenburg County commissioners will soon debate where to set next year's property tax rate. Some residents say the rate should be lowered by five pennies to the so-called "revenue-neutral" rate to reflect the overall rise in property values, while others have said they'd be willing to keep the current rate of 83.87 cents per $100 of valuation to help raise more money for services like schools. Commissioners may also pick a different number.

This searchable database shows what your potential county tax bill could be in 2011-12 based on the original property values sent out this spring, the current estimate of the revenue-neutral rate and the current levy. ABB groundbreaking planned for Monday - Huntersville NC Business News

ABB Groundbreaking Huntersville NC 2011

The Lake Norman Regional Economic Development Corp. will host a Monday April 4th groundbreaking for ABB, a Swiss company set to build a $90 million manufacturing plant in Commerce Station Business Park off N.C. 115.

The company plans to hire 100 workers to make high-voltage underground electrical cables to extend the U.S. power grid.

ABB, whose North American headquarters are in Cary, provides transmission and distribution equipment and technology for power grids worldwide. The company operates in about 100 countries and employs about 117,000 people, including 771 full-time workers in North Carolina.

The high-voltage and extra-high-voltage cables that will be made in Huntersville are in growing demand to carry electricity long distances from solar, wind and other renewable-energy sources, ABB officials said.

The Huntersville jobs will pay an average of $64,008 a year, higher than Mecklenburg County's $48,776 average, ABB officials said. The jobs will include a 50-50 mix of manufacturing workers and engineers, officials said.

ABB officials cited Charlotte/Douglas International Airport, engineering talent in the Charlotte area and the region's quality of life as factors in locating the plant here.

The state is providing about $5 million in incentives, and Mecklenburg County and Huntersville about another $6 million combined, spread over eight to 12 years, said Dale Carroll, deputy secretary of the N.C. Department of Commerce.

Groundbreaking festivities will be from 2-3:30 p.m., starting in the Central Piedmont Community College North Campus auditorium at 11930 Verhoeff Drive. A shuttle will then take guests to Commerce Station for the official groundbreaking.

Bassmaster Southern Open 2011 coming to Lake Norman NC

Bassmaster 2011Bassmaster Southern Open 2011 is coming to Lake Norman, NC March 24th-26th.

First time since 2006 that a national BASS event has been held on Lake Norman.  Event will feature 400 of the top professional anglers from around the world.  Boats will launch from Blythe Landing, weigh-ins held lakeside first two days and final Saturday weigh-in will be held at Bass Pro Shop (Concord).
